One of the most talked about shows in North America since before it even premiered on Apple TV+ in 2020 is Ted Lasso. This feel-good dramedy series centres on plucky Ted Lasso, an American man whose heart is more Southern than a bucket of fried chicken and a side of biscuits and gravy. The show follows his move from the US to England, where he starts his new job as a soccer coach for one of the UK’s most prominent, albeit poorly performing, teams. Cast with real soccer players from around the globe, in addition to big Hollywood and West End names like Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham, this show brings the laughs, the tears, and everything in between.

WHAT TO LEARN:

Ted Lasso is an inspiring gem of the small screen that has continued to lasso viewers’ hearts for the past three years. It covers vocabulary related to American vs. British English, American and British humour, a variety of different English accents (e.g. Southern American, British, French, Mexican, African, etc.), soccer, culture clash, idioms, phrasal verbs, comparison, change, positivity, encouragement, figurative language, informal language, mental health, confidence, relationships (teammates, family, significant others, coworkers, boss, self), breakups, and so much more…!
