Top 10 Artists of 2022

New Year’s Eve of 2021 saw me making the resolution of listening to more music. I used to listen to music non-stop as a preteen and teenager, but as I grew up, went to school, and started working, my dedication to music quickly diminished. Not purposefully, mind you–it was completely unpremeditated–but I stopped taking the time to sit down, relax, and listen to a good tune.

So, as a means to resolve this, I made it my New Year’s resolution to make music more of a priority in my life. After all, it can make doing any mundane task more enjoyable. And I must say that doing the dishes is definitely one of those tasks for me… I am so grateful for dishwashers! They are a lifesaver!

Anyway, as it turns out, I listened to over 5,866 minutes worth of music this past year (this is according to Spotify; this obviously does not count the time I listened to music on YouTube, on film, or from public intercoms while shopping). In total, the amount of unique artists I explored was 430, while the amount of songs I chose to listen to was 896.

I am quite surprised by the amount of individual bands and musicians that I checked out this year, as it seems like quite a lot for me. But then again, I don’t often listen to the same song more than once–I’m rather particular with my music. I guess that makes sense, then, that I listened to so many different songs.

Seeing these stats and music-listening patterns that I seem to have had throughout the year, makes me curious as to whom my favourite artists are. So, like my best movies list, here is a curated collection of my most-listened-to English-language artists of 2022.
