If I Were A Boy by Beyoncé is not only an iconic song from the hip-hop/pop artist’s third album, I Am… Sasha Fierce (2008), but it is also an excellent example of how English speakers naturally combine a variety of verb tenses and grammatical moods in order to express their ideas (i.e. present simple, present perfect, past simple, indicative, subjunctive, conditional). In addition to this, students of the English language can find other vocabulary themes and linguistic elements to learn from: American culture, sexism, socialization, choice, relationships, phrasal verbs, informal language, g-dropping, reductions, collocations, contractions, and much more…!
