In most Canadian regions, March is the month of melting snow and ice. It is when the white city landscape turns to brown as roads become wet and muddy. As such, today’s word is an important one to know, especially if you live in Canada, or another wintry country in the northern hemisphere.

DEFINITION

  1. to transition from a state of being frozen to being warm, or room temperature

EXAMPLES

  • “It thawed outside yesterday. There is no longer any snow or ice on the ground. It looks like spring is coming.”

  • “I had asked my teenage son to take out the steaks from the freezer to thaw before I got home from work. Unfortunately, he forgot to do it. So, I guess we’re just eating salad this evening.”

Has it begun thawing where you live? What do you typically need to let thaw before you cook or eat it? Let me know in the comments below.
