Black Girl Magic

—| C1-C2 (advanced) |—

In American English, this expression typically means:

  • SLANG:

    • to show support and encouragement of the amazing efforts, strength, accomplishments, and general awesomeness that Black women have shown and possess despite the oppression that they have faced and continue to face daily in the United States of America and elsewhere (AAVE)

NOTE

This popular slang term is used among members of the Black community as a way to lift each other up. It is a product of modern AAVE (African American Vernacular English), a dialect of the English language originating from and centralized in the Black communities of North America. As such, it may be considered inappropriate (even offensive) for non-Black individuals to use this term. Nevertheless, it is a common expression nowadays to understand when heard or read.
